Program Information
Some of our greatest music comes out of our most troubled times. Slavery. Assassinations. The throes of worldwide war.
Performing our 8th annual winter concert, the 18th Street Singers present "In These Our Darkest Hours." The subjects of these pieces – and often their composers – faced some of history's most difficult circumstances, yet inspired fantastic works of music that impacted generations to come. This program explores the musical legacy of our toughest times and the human spirit that endures through them.
Program includes works from classical icons Francis Poulenc, Felix Mendelssohn, and Samuel Barber, plus music from U2, Sweet Honey in the Rock, and the rich tradition of American spirituals.
Please join us for a light reception in the church following the concert.
